The Championship is full of hardened professionals and I doubt the loss of McNeil and Cornet , if it happens , will affect our ability to compete. In fact I expect us to be more competitive without them.
That’s a bizarre thing to say. How can the loss of two of our best players not affect our ability to compete?
I’m absolutely terrified by what’s going on at our club at the moment. We were always going to lose some our prized assets after relegation, but this is a complete fire-sale. If you add-in the parachute payments it goes well beyond what’s needed to cover the debt. This bears all the hallmarks of the asset strip I feared it might be when Pace took over.

Not the most inspiring presser I have ever heard by VK today
Not his fault. He was just reporting the facts as they are. Sounded like Max and Dwight will be gone to pay off the debt then bring in some more players on the cheap.

I know that wasn’t aimed at me, but Mee, Collins, Hennessey and McNeil (should he go) for me. Put it this way, if McNeil and Cornet leave there isn’t a single player left who I thought may leave.

Basically he is saying that the core of our team was so old/out of contract we haven’t got anything for most of them!

As said many times here we were always going to lose our better players because they want to carry on playing in the Prem and more importantly still get a nice shiny new Prem contract, and good luck to them, to think that they would stay and turn down an offer of more money and Permier League football then some people need to wake up. Fire sale and Asset stripping……oh dear

Was always likely clubs would come in for Collins and McNeil, they are good players. Mee was a free, so very very likely a premier club would want him, can’t blame him, and we can’t compete with the premier league lure. Hennessy has a 2 year deal at forest and I suspect VK was more than happy for him to leave as it doesn’t fit the way he wants to play, and would be on a decent wedge.

Selling an academy product for £20M profit is the holy grail. We may not like losing McNeil, but it’s difficult to argue against it.
But ALK need to move quick now and bring a few big players in. Not loans. Not young kids. But proper players that will make a statement that we mean business.
If we don’t, then alarm bells will really start to ring.

Proven championship players were big signings for us when we were in the Premier League, even then the pick of the bunch were going elsewhere.
We might push the boat out for one but I can't see us getting much joy trying to prize away decent players from teams who are now our peers.

Wasn't it rumoured a few weeks ago by Nixon that should McNeil leave then Burnley would make a move for Jason Knight?

Well individually there was a chance that they may all leave. But I didn’t think they all would. As for a couple of your points, we really don’t know about Hennessey and Mee, but there was speculation that we didn’t offer Mee a new contract - and I doubt Kompany would have been happy to lose Hennessey considering the keepers we were left with.

We will never know all the ins and outs of what’s going on, but I’m not surprised really of any of the outgoings.

The concern among many fans isnt the sale of any single player but rather the cumulative effect of the exits. Two more key players on their way out. It's a good thing that these sales haven't occurred at the very end of the transfer window meaning the club has time to show they can make the necessary replacements.

Sure, huge player turnover, but mostly expected and nothing really we could do about it.

It’s to be hoped that some of the new signings prove to be a big success. It’ll be a short lived approach if not.

Multiple sales inevitable. The test, in time, will be have we adequately replaced them and found a reasonable balance or taken too many risks.

They don't want to stay . They don't want to try to get BFC back to the PL because they can get there without trying.

Yes, I agree, but the replacements in my view will never be Premier League quality.
Pace may be happy wheeling and dealing and making a buck but will Kompany ? Maybe for a short while but it won't last.

For me personally nothing wrong with my morale, I can’t wait for the new season, too see the new style of play and the new players etc. I’m also taking VK comments this afternoon with a pinch of salt, I think he’s being very clever and lowering expectations of us fans but also of potential selling clubs who’s players we may go for, the last thing we want is clubs thinking we have parachute payments and players sales money available so they in turn boost the price. By time we play Luton I think we will have 3/4 more potential starters added to the squad.

I don’t think either of those statements are true. On all the transfer speculation on here since relegation I haven’t seen anyone suggest we would lose all of Pope, Hennessey, Mee, Tarkowski, Collins, McNeil, Cornet and Weghorst - not to mention all of the other senior players who I think most people were happy that we released. And it’s absolutely not the case that we couldn’t do anything about some of these outgoings.

Given this is a football forum and not one on semantic linguistics presumably you know what was meant...!
Presumably you could give the substantive point the benefit of the doubt and not bother yourself with the hyperbole. At this point it looks like we will lose up to 14 senior pros, all of our better players and have spent less than £8 million in return.
It's not a fire sale but it sure is beginning to feel like one.

Ignoring Hennessy, and Weghorst aside cos he’s a knob, all the others are premier league quality. It’s hardly surprising clubs want them.
If a premier league club wants our players is such a naive view to think we can make them stay. Who wants an unhappy player?

Its a short career, its absolutely mental to stay at a club on less money when you can double it by moving, and you are good enough to move
I mean, it really is that simple

Imagine you are Ben Mee, imagine your Premier League contract paid £50k a week. Imagine the contract also said your wage would be reduced to less than £30k/week if relegated to the Championship. (Forget age and recent injury record). What wage do you expect to be offered by Burnley? What wage do you think you can get on a free transfer to a Premier League club, even if it's a club that only matches Burnley's modest (relatively speaking) Premier League wages?

Who have we lost that you wouldn’t have expected too?
Pope, Mee and Tarko we couldn’t do anything about, but why sell Collins and Hennessey as well? Collins was under contract for another 4 years, so why sell him for £20m?
I expected to lose Cornet, and still do, but that being the case I’d hope we’d have held on the McNeil.
Weghorst made his feelings clear, but allowing him to go out on loan makes no sense and he still hasn’t been replaced.
We don’t seem to have exactly pulled out all the stops to keep contracted players and I fear we haven’t finished yet. Roberts? Taylor?

Definitely. Because my point, and the post you replied to, wasn't just about players leaving but the importance of sufficient replacements and having time to achieve that.

Roberts? Taylor?
Why sell Collins? A premier league club came in for him, as soon as that happened he was off. You can’t keep players who don’t want to be here. And £20m for an inexperienced young centre half is decent money.

It's because they really don't want to stay. It really is that simple.

We’ve already spent more than £8m.

Ignoring Hennessy, and Weghorst aside cos he’s a knob, all the others are premier league quality. It’s hardly surprising clubs want them.
If a premier league club wants our players is such a naive view to think we can make them stay. Who wants an unhappy player?
Is it naive to think that Ben Mee would have stayed at Burnley? Really?
Lots of players don’t get the move they want. We’ve just been told to do one by Coventry despite the player seemingly being very keen on a move and a chance to make a lot more money. It’s not often a team is relegated and loses so many of their players.
It’s naive to think that this is more about player power than debt repayment in my view. Kompany even alluded to that in his press conference. And I have no problem with the debt being repaid, because I’m realistic. But it seems to me that the board have decided to put aside any realistic ambition of an immediate return to the PL by prioritising quick income to service the debt - which is very disappointing to me and seemingly some others.
I find this acceptance that all these players were always going to leave quite odd and certainly revisionist. I’m sure if you go back a few weeks on this forum the narrative was very different.

He’s just signed for a premier league club, so yeah I think it’s very naive to think he would have stayed here AND Kompany is changing how we play, he was on a monster wage, to who is to say he even wanted him to stay.
Pretty sure if Mee wanted to stay and Kompany wanted him then it would have happened.

We don’t know how Mee’s salary at Brentford compares to what his salary would have been at Burnley. We also don’t know whether he was offered a new contract or not. We also don’t know, at this stage of his career, whether he would have been happy spending the last couple of years at the club where he has spent almost his entire professional career, living in the region where his young family is settled.
Let’s not now pretend that Ben Mee was always going to leave.

But it’s not surprising he has left, which has been my point this evening.

Well yeah. That’s my point, if Kompany or Pace didn’t want him (which none of us seem to know) then that would be a poor decision by the club in my view.
