All I have in my head is 'Don't get out' - then the inevitable happens.
Re: Ashes third test
If that's the thinking then what's the point of playing test match cricket?
Why not do away with it and just play more T20 games.

Just seen on Twitter that Jarrow have been drawn away to Padiham in some sort of football cup.

Getting boring this. If you think our decision cost us the game you can’t also argue the entire series it’s all one sided.
Enjoy tomorrow. Hopefully the rain holds off.

Wow I didn’t realise Jarrow had a team that played at that level, used to love going up the Arborio’s when I was younger.Quickenthetempo wrote: ↑Fri Jul 07, 2023 8:20 pmJust seen on Twitter that Jarrow have been drawn away to Padiham in some sort of football cup.

What about a silly declaration on day one when Root was seeing it like a football could easily have got a extra 50 runs .ClaretTony wrote: ↑Fri Jul 07, 2023 6:31 pmWe only lost the first test because they scored an unbeaten 54 for the 9th wicket when the game looked won.
We deserved to lose the second test but gave it a real go.
This test is right up there with them and this third day has been enthralling.

I think the most telling stat is that England have dropped almost double the catches the Aussies have in this series so far.Clive 1960 wrote: ↑Sat Jul 08, 2023 12:32 amWhat about a silly declaration on day one when Root was seeing it like a football could easily have got a extra 50 runs .
At this level in particular, catches really do win matches..

Agreed but the other telling stat is extras I think that is around double as well too many no balls and byes especially.Andreshotboots wrote: ↑Sat Jul 08, 2023 6:29 amI think the most telling stat is that England have dropped almost double the catches the Aussies have in this series so far.

I don’t get the comments Khawaja it’s not exactly like he is Boycott. He’s scoring at a pretty average test rate.
I wish we had him, we might be able to actually beat decent teams then

Re: Ashes third test
We desperately need a Khawaja type at the top of the order - someone that can see out the first change and be a bit of a lynchpin… far too much pressure is put on Root consistently coming in at sort of 60-2 or whatever.
Not to mention that we can still play a super aggressive style with the middle order

Re: Ashes third test
And you wouldn't have considered it silly had we got a wicket or two before close. Shame people are still going on about the declaration when, had it not happened, the likely result would have been a draw given the time. There have been far more incidents, and more key incidents, that have turned close games in their favour.Clive 1960 wrote: ↑Sat Jul 08, 2023 12:32 amWhat about a silly declaration on day one when Root was seeing it like a football could easily have got a extra 50 runs .

That declaration is a red herring...you could understand it even if you didn't agree with it.
Stokes is desperate to put England on the front foot..you have to admire that.

How many runs would you expect to need to bowl tailenders out?StayingDown4Ever wrote: ↑Sat Jul 08, 2023 11:00 amyeah that was the only reason we lost the first test
They will average around 10 when it's easy, no pressure cricket.
In them circumstances 10 runs should have been plenty.

Feel sorry for those there today, especially at £90 a ticket on the Western Terrace (or 'popular enclosure' as it's now known)
Guy sat next to us had just paid £180 for a ticket from a tout outside the ground and we got talking to an Aussie in the bar queue who had paid £200

Re: Ashes third test
Tend to agree, I baulked a bit at paying £90 but it is The Ashes and at least we were lucky enough to see a full days play in the sunshine.
As much as I enjoy a day out at a Test match, no way would I pay £180-£200 for a ticket, but each to their own I guess.

Re: Ashes third test
Sadly for everybody the forecast was not good and based on that alone I would no way have lined the pockets of a tout. Obviously people who had already got tickets prior to today had no optionsVintage Claret wrote: ↑Sat Jul 08, 2023 1:37 pmTend to agree, I baulked a bit at paying £90 but it is The Ashes and at least we were lucky enough to see a full days play in the sunshine.

I wonder how you are fixed if you buy from a tout, and want to claim a refund due to play being abandoned.Vintage Claret wrote: ↑Sat Jul 08, 2023 1:10 pmIMG_20230707_110921798_HDR_compress72.jpgThink we had the best of the weather yesterday..

Re: Ashes third test
A long time ago (90’s) I bought a ticket from a tout at Lords. About 1 hour into the game a policeman came and told me the ticket I had bought was stolen in the mail. The correct owner had the receipt and seat number. I was told to vacate the seat but was allowed to remain in the ground. Never bought off a tout since The police arrested the tout for theft

Re: Ashes third test
Given the forecast, that is sheer stupidity. Must admit, I thought there would have been some play and it would be more of an on-and-off day but it was tied on that a lot of time would be lost.Vintage Claret wrote: ↑Sat Jul 08, 2023 1:10 pmIMG_20230707_110921798_HDR_compress72.jpgThink we had the best of the weather yesterday..

I'm pretty sure the refund goes back to the person who bought the ticket.nil_desperandum wrote: ↑Sat Jul 08, 2023 2:21 pmI wonder how you are fixed if you buy from a tout, and want to claim a refund due to play being abandoned.
