Re: Next manager
The sooner this Lampard rumour dies, the happier I’ll be. Get this wrong and another spell in the wilderness awaits. Although to be fair, I’ll probably enjoy it anyway.
Re: Next manager
And therein lies the problem. Are we in a position to be able to prioritise style over the need to get promoted due to our financial issues?NottsClaret wrote: ↑Sun May 26, 2024 9:15 pmThe sooner this Lampard rumour dies, the happier I’ll be. Re: Next manager
Leeds will have to tighten their belts next season. Can’t believe that they would sack Farke after getting that many points!
Re: Next manager
I am not sure how anyone can assess Lampard against other candidates. He did well at Derby, very well in his first season at Chelsea. At Everton it needed the bouncers in. If Frank joins the project I would welcome him and I suspect so would most of the players.

Sky bet have opened markets for Man City next manager but haven’t bothered for Burnley and Sunderland
Re: Next manager
Leicester look like they'll need a manager.nil_desperandum wrote: ↑Sun May 26, 2024 4:31 pmSo what opportunities do you see for Moyes in the PL at present?
Doubt he'll want to move abroad at this stage of his career.
He has a lot of connections (+ a house) up here.
He would inherit one of the strongest (if not the strongest) squads in the Championship, and a two year contract for him with a bonus if he takes us up and keeps us up would surely be almost perfect for him??
Brighton still need one.
Ipswich might need one.
Then he can wait it out until someone is sacked early / mid season

Re: Next manager
I find it incredible that BFC has not made some sort of statement regarding the clubs managerial position.
They must know the fans need to be updated.
Don't want rumours, deal not yet done but they still have VKs speech on their website talking about his plans with us for next season.
You get better updates from the media.

Most people on the thread below are of the clear view that it would be wrong for the club to make a statement until Kompany’s move has been officially completed:It Is What It Is wrote: ↑Mon May 27, 2024 9:11 amI find it incredible that BFC has not made some sort of statement regarding the clubs managerial position.

It doesn't have to be all or nothing though. Some indication of what's actually happening would probably suffice for some people. You don't have to leave people completely in the dark you can briefly tell people where you are.taio wrote: ↑Mon May 27, 2024 9:15 amMost people on the thread below are of the clear view that it would be wrong for the club to make a statement until Kompany’s move has been officially completed:

Of course the club could do that. But in my view, and the view of others, it wouldn't be the right thing to do until the deal has been completed. I don't think people are in the dark - it's clear what's happening and the club will surely issue a statement in due course when the time is right.Jakubclaret wrote: ↑Mon May 27, 2024 9:26 amIt doesn't have to be all or nothing though. Its outside our control now, Bayern need to finalise clauses with VK. Gives our Board time to do some behind the scenes sounding out of replacements, so once BM make the announcement we can move quickly

Just like Bayern, we may not get our first, second or third choice of manager, given how many PL vacancies out there.
Perhaps Pace is better looking further afield than all the names being touted.

Re: Next manager
Don't think there's any chance that Brighton want him
With regards to the other 2 posts or picking up a job following a sacking, this means he is taking on a backs to the wall fight against relegation
(Quite possible that Leicester will be deducted points)
He is coming up 62. Ipswich is a long, long way from his home in Lytham
If I were him I'd much prefer to walk my dogs every morning on the green or beach at Lytham, then make the short journey to manage a team who must start amongst the favourites for promotion
He's not short of money so it rather depends on what his priorities are, but for me a 2 year deal at Burnley with a good incentive to gain promotion and then keep us up would be perfect for both parties.

From that list, I’d be delighted with Cooper or Moyes and dare I say it, I’d be okay with Lampard, too.

Re: Next manager
The problem the club have with someone like Frank Lampard is that many supporters don't want him so he'll be given less chance to succeed, especially if we don't start well than say Steve Cooper or David Moyes.
It was exactly the same with Brian Laws. He may or may not have been given a proper chance but it was a toxic feeling when he got appointed, and was never popular.

Exactly, I don’t want Lampard but I’d be prepared to give him a chance. Plenty of others won’t though. You only have to look at the Trafford debacle to see that.Spijed wrote: ↑Mon May 27, 2024 10:14 amThe problem the club have with someone like Frank Lampard is that many supporters don't want him so he'll be given less chance to succeed, especially if we don't start well than say Steve Cooper or David Moyes.

Re: Next manager
Well the bookies have him at 14/1, which is probably about right, but that shouldn't stop Pace going all out to get him - if he believes that he is the best man for the job.
"Long shot", yes I agree, but it shouldn't stop us going for him, since we don't know what Moyes priorities are at this stage of his life.
Re: Next manager
I agree, Pace should certainly be enquiring. But there are obvious barriers, such as:nil_desperandum wrote: ↑Mon May 27, 2024 10:21 amWell the bookies have him at 14/1, which is probably about right, but that shouldn't stop Pace going all out to get him - if he believes that he is the best man for the job.

- wages
- unwillingness to drop to Championship
- PL job opportunity may arise before the season starts or shortly after it starts
- wanting a break.

Re: Next manager
Would be disappointed with John Terry,Gary Rowett,Scott Parker, Ashley Cole.
Still and Knutsen, who knows.
Carlos Carvalho has had about 25 clubs in 25 years.
Rosenior, meh.
Robins, Lampard, might be good might not.
Potter, Moyes,Cooper, would be happy with any of them.

Re: Next manager
When kompany eventually goes the incoming compensation & freeing up his wage will go a long way into breaking down some of them barriers. The club should be an attractive proposition to a reasonable name.
Re: Next manager
Nixon says Jackson is staying with Burnley.
Re: Next manager
If he is staying with the club, you would think that the new manager must have been found and agreed to Jackson being in his back room team?
Re: Next manager
Fair play to Jackson. His family are probably settled here.

Re: Next manager
I’d make Mike Jackson the manager. He did well enough the last time. Far better option than all the other candidates. Very sensible on his part as well, if this is true. Kompany will be dumped In six months and all his followers will be unemployed.
Re: Next manager
I know it's easy to forget that people in football are just people after all, but it's entirely possible that Jackson has a happy family life over here and doesn't want to uproot himself or his family for what it likely to be a short spell in Germany.

Re: Next manager
I thought he was a dreadful manager if I'm honest. The Newcastle game had been coming, he completely overthought it and ended up worrying way to much about their strengths not ours. That led to players out of position and a feeble passive performance.dermotdermot wrote: ↑Mon May 27, 2024 11:12 amI’d make Mike Jackson the manager. He did well enough the last time. Re: Next manager
Kkeiran McKenna might end up staying with Ipswich.
I think he wants the Man U job, but Ten Hag has perhaps got a stay of execution with the FA Cup win but Ratcliffe apparently going to conduct a 'season review'. Seems he's trying to ease Ten Hag out any which way.
Brighton seem to have McKenna high on their list and again 'the press' advising him to hurry up and make a decision or Brighton will move on.
As people have already stated, perhaps Potter is happy to wait for 'the right job', if he is still on a gardening leave type of arrangement. Strikes me as the type of guy to prefer to be working sooner rather than later. I've got a feeling he'll be travelling the world, football wise, to further increase his coaching knowledge.

Re: Next manager
On that list, I don't see any surprising names, although I had forgotten about John Terry.
The odds tell me that they haven't yet taken any significant money for anyone and it very much looks like an 'opening show'.
I'm guessing that the first market moves will be guided by the first attempt to place £20 or more.
As dande and kenton have said it doesn't take much money to affect the market and most bookies won't take more than a fifty pound bet. Some much less.
Some exceptions for regular big hitters and regular losers.
