Summer 2024 Transfer Window Discussion - Rumours and Links welcome
Re: Summer 2024 Transfer Window Discussion - Rumours and Links welcome
Do we actually need to spend money on another keeper if Trafford goes? Hladky, Green and Casper as our 3 look solid enough.

Hell of a pressure on the manager to bond and gell the new team in time. We've probably blown automatic promotion.JimmyRobbo wrote: ↑Mon Aug 26, 2024 12:15 pmI'm not worried.
If we sell for a big profit and we daisy chain then I am quite content for it to happen. The re-investment is the important aspect and let's be honest, if there's anything the american owners have definitely done; it is invest in the playing stock.
We make a profit from sales and move on.
A sound business model.
In all honesty, why would you stand in the way of a young professional who is wanted by an EPL club? A player who missed half of his playing time through injury.
Move on.

Absolutely pointless selling Amdouni or Kolesho. Both are very likely to be worth way more in 12 months time. As well as the more pressing matter, which is getting promoted. Which is worth a lot of money too. Both of these factors make selling them economically stupid. Not to mention the players and the fans morale, which after last week is floating around the rocks.

This is going to take some proper wheeling and dealing to get us into any fit state to challenge for the top two.LongsideClaret wrote: ↑Mon Aug 26, 2024 12:01 pmHannibal one of the ones today. Two wingers as well. Sounds like our main winger may be on the way out.
If Koleosho goes then we definitely need some marquee signings to cover the loss both on and off the pitch as the fans will be extremely unhappy and more importantly the effect without him on the pitch against Sunderland was there for all to see.

Is that the Pires that played well in his first 2 matches and poorly, along with all the side, in the last? After the turmoil surrounding the club and the two late withdrawals it is no surprise we were pants on Saturday. Give the guy a chance FFS.Jakubs Tash wrote: ↑Mon Aug 26, 2024 10:32 amHa! Being realistic maybe someone like Targett the left back? I’m not sure Pires is particularly up to it and we could do with some additional strength on that position too.

Would be quite happy if we don't get Billing, he's the very definition of languid.
Good player in a dominant team with the majority of possession but away from home in a muck and nettles game, don't think so.
The proviso being that Parker opts to play 3 in midfield in which case it may work with 2 ratters like Cullen and Brownhill.
Billing would prove to be a divisive figure i reckon as he's one of those that doesn't look like he's putting the hard yards in due to his style/gait.

Do you honestly think it was a smart idea to sell Odobert and Zaroury, with Koleosho and Benson also likely to leave, and replace them with the likes of Sarmiento and Jaidon Anthony? Selling and making profit is good as long as you reinvest some of this. The way we are doing business this summer is a complete shambles.JimmyRobbo wrote: ↑Mon Aug 26, 2024 12:15 pmI'm not worried.

I’d take Billing all day long. But unless Brownhill is going, I don’t think we’d be going for another cm on top of Hannibal.

There were clear caveats in my post about replacing with better technical players which you have chosen to ignore. He cost us very little and we’ll make a lot of money from selling him now. He’s not a very good footballer. Quick? Yes. Good footballer? Not really.RVclaret wrote: ↑Mon Aug 26, 2024 12:19 pmIt’s unbelievable to me that people can have the view they don’t care about our best players leaving. Amdouni next. Trafford. When does it stop? What a joke. Oh and absolutely no one has said anything about Messi or made that comparison, very weird comment.
The Messi comment was extreme, granted. I know nobody has made a comparison to him. But people go on about Koleosho like he’s some incredible footballer (is the point). He’s not a patch on Zarorury from a footballing point of view.
I think you need to take a breath and have a sit down. Read posts properly before responding on such a manner. I thought you had more about you than this.

I think Billing would compliment our midfielders well, I like Hannibal as well.
Can't believe people would want to lose Koleosho, genuinely one of the best talents I've seen at our football club. We have to do what Leeds did with Gnonto on this one for me.

I am giving him a chance and will continue to do so. He just hasn’t filled me with confidence in his early performances. Also we still need left back cover.Tricky Trevor wrote: ↑Mon Aug 26, 2024 12:24 pmIs that the Pires that played well in his first 2 matches and poorly, along with all the side, in the last? And for what it’s worth, he played well at Luton, wasn’t great v Cardiff and was abysmal on Saturday.

I don't think two wingers coming in means Koleosho is going. We've already sold Odobert and Zaroury, Benson clearly is never playing another game for us, Redmond is out until god knows when and Tresor is a shape shifting crime fighter.
If we sign two, then we've essentially got 3 wingers for the first half of the season.

Of course, that's what being a fan is... Otherwise there's no point and football is all but dead. You can't blame people for being passionate about their club.

Not that he's priceless, he's still going to be worth that or more in 12 months. We don't need to sell everyone for a quick profit.

Benson has a heart of a peanut and a body of a glass bottle. He'll inly be fit for 20 games from 50 or 60.
Zaroury had packed in when he returned from the WC. Wasn't great in his loan spells and got dropped.
Odobert, I was disappointed with but that is an important return on your investment and why stand in his way?
Koleosho had a serious injury and only played until Christmas last season. He may yet be suceptible to inhury. Big money and why stand in his way?
Absolutely not a shambles. Returning significant proft envourages further investment.

It’s horrible losing players like this on a regular basis but if they want off then let them go and maximise what you can get.
I get it - it feels like a punch in the guts every time it happens.
But the key here is that the club act fast and reinvest. Bring in some quality that the fans can get excited about. There’s no point carrying sulkers.

Agree with everything here. Plus what’s SP supposed to do with players have have downed tool and don’t want to play for Burnley.
Get rid at a sizeable profit and bring in players that do want to play for SP and Burnley.

I have to say I didn't personally see much of Anthony and Sarmiento, but between them, they've scored 6 goals last season in 71 games. No matter how hard you try to spin it, there's no chance they are better than what we had 2 seasons ago.
You like recognizing the team we put out? Good luck with that on Saturday. It will be a nervy derby when you have 5 debutants.

We need to sell players if we have no money. Where do u think the money comes from to run the club. Pay the players.
I run my own business and every week every month it takes a huge amount of money to keep the doors open. I have to bring money in every month to achieve that.

This is a good signing - but it all feels, and is, utterly irrelevant when the club is selling Koleosho and probably Amdouni as well.
