Genk.
The goals came at the beginning and end of the game. Genk were in front as early as the eighth minute when James Trafford, making his first appearance for the Clarets, appeared to misjudge a cross from Mike Trésor and it led to Anouar Ait El Hadj having a shot deflected off the line with Yira Sor to score from close range.
Real Betis.
The second half was only six minutes old when the Spaniards equalised. Substitute Marc Bartra took a free kick on the half way line. It caught out James Trafford, hit the woodwork and rebounded onto the Burnley goalkeeper for an own goal.

Anthony wasn’t playing mostly on his favoured wing at all, it was only from February onwards that Anthony got the left wing spot.Mattster wrote: ↑Sun Jul 20, 2025 7:48 amFrom February onwards, yes. But only after being played in every single game (starting all but one) up until that point, mostly on his favoured wing and for 90 minutes in the vast majority of games - something not afforded to any other forward/winger in the squad.
Anthony and Roberts actually started to get a good partnership on the right.
The left wingers were a mix of koleosho, Sarmiento, Hannibal and foster and none of time nailed the position down and then we signed Edwards, had our first choice wingers and never looked back

No he wasn’t shocking. He had some difficult games and Kompany hung him out too dry. Then we got Muric back and we saw some proper poor goalkeeping.
Not sure why this all has to do with the transfer thread though.

Re: Summer transfer window
I can think of only one game (may have been Bristol) where Anthony had a “shocker” by his standards and that was the game when he missed 3 or 4 big chances during the game
The following game Coventry he was back on it and scored 2 and could possibly have scored a third

Re: Summer transfer window
If Anthony was better than Koleosho at the start /in the first half of the season it was only marginal and completely predictable given he got to go straight in on his favoured wing whilst Koleosho was shunted off to the weaker one. Anthony's first 10 games all came on the left wing. Koleosho didn't get 10 appearances on the left total, let alone back to back.Newcastleclaret93 wrote: ↑Sun Jul 20, 2025 8:22 amThat’s just not being genuine Mattster
Every man and there dog could see that Koleosho had lost a yard and struggled right from the very first game.
Anthony wasn’t spectacular first half of the season but he was still performing better than Koleosho.
It’s not to say Koleosho won’t improve but to suggest Koleosho should have started ahead of him last season is just insane after the stinkers he threw in.
Anthony came good in February, until then he was poor. It took him time to get form despite not missing 6 months through injury the season before. Yet Koleosho is expected to hit the ground running from day one to justify his place.

Koleosho made 9 appearances on the left wing all season and 2 of those were before Anthony signed.
Stop making things up.

Saudi Premier League are bringing in rules saying all goalkeepers have to be from Saudi Arabia. Also I think they have low tax rates in Turkey so the money's pretty good, that's why Osimhen and Duran and Sane are there.Jakubs Tash wrote: ↑Sun Jul 20, 2025 11:34 amI really can’t get my head around why Ederson would want to go and play in Turkey.

So basically 45% of JA's apps were not on the left-hand side, almost like SP moved JA around to try and find a formula before we managed to get ME in January.
Also you never answered these questions;
Did we get promoted last season, and what did you constantly predict would happen? Hence, SP was justified in his management of the team.

But I don’t understand what you’re even arguing. You’re even admitting yourself that Anthony was better (even if it was marginal).
Koleosho has a big year ahead of him. He’s got to play minutes and start producing.

You have made out that Anthony played majority of his games on the last wing, even by your own stats he played 19 on the right, that’s still a fair split between both wings. You are making out that it was Parker’s favouritism towards Anthony that cost koleosho, when that’s not the case, Sarmiento , Hannibal and foster all played on the left to whilst Anthony was playing on the write. None of them were at the levels of Anthony

Agreed-have seen him play at least twice live, and he is immense. Maybe not one of his best seasons with injury/form, but he is still immense, exceptionally brave, commanding and one hell of a shop stopper. Plus I have not seen a GK hit a 70-80 yard pass with such precision as him.Surprised no one in Germany, France or Italy has not gone for himCyrilEbokiPoh wrote: ↑Sun Jul 20, 2025 12:07 pmMust admit that seems a strange move surely he has bigger and better offers.

And I said at the expense of Koleosho. When Anthony played on the left in all of his first 10 games it was at the expense of Koleosho who had started both his previous games on the left and was immediately shunted to the right. That's just fact.

What’s your excuse for koleosho not being picked over Sarmiento, Hannibal and foster? Is that Anthony’s fault or did the manager who eventually finished on 100 points actually pick the correct players?Mattster wrote: ↑Sun Jul 20, 2025 12:16 pmLook up the definition of majority. This thread is or has become just so tedious.
Re: Summer transfer window
Given I was shouted down on here by the majority in January for saying we shouldn't sign Shelvey because he wasn't fit and would be a massive waste of money when we could just use the likes of Bauress and McDermott as 5th choice midfielder (before the Reading game) I'd say that's not likely. 123EasyasBFC on the other hand...

So realistically we need a GK, strong central midfielder alongside Cullen, and a striker. I wonder what sort of money we're expecting to spend on these.
Re: Summer transfer window
Yes you’re spot on, these three positions are essential. At some point soon we’re going to lose the third of our four best players from last season so these three positions need strengthening with some big hitters.claretlegend wrote: ↑Sun Jul 20, 2025 1:13 pmSo realistically we need a GK, strong central midfielder alongside Cullen, and a striker. I think we've had a very good transfer window so far, but it was done very early which I think has left a lot of fan's heads and has made them think we haven't done much. We're in a very good position as even worst case scenario, loans could be enough. But I fully expect we will bring 2-3 more to fill the gaps we need.claretlegend wrote: ↑Sun Jul 20, 2025 1:13 pmSo realistically we need a GK, strong central midfielder alongside Cullen, and a striker. He even travelled to Istanbul but then returned to England to collect his belongings, but didn’t board flight back to Türkiye due to wages issues at Burnley
