Brilliant.

I assume by your incredibly witty remarks that you’ll be going, no matter who we draw then?

Sorry to be the bearer of bad news on this, but the debate about whether we should support Arsenal against Athletico has been raging on a duplicate thread from earlier.

Following the final earlier today, the side I expect to be the beneficiary if the Arse do give Mr Arse the perfect sendoff, is Feyenoord.

The reason is because on the 2018/19 access list, NED are the country first on the list WITHOUT a group stage place, thus would be the beneficiaries, and Feyenoord, thanks to Van Persie, were in 4th place, would have got a qualifying round place, but will now be hoping to sneak straight in.

Ironically, the below Dutch website is the best one I have seen at explaining it. The Czechs benefitted due to Man Utd winning it in this example. That is why Everton lost out.

So, get those lads on holiday a week or two early Sean, pre season will need adjusting.

And based on your logic does that mean the ranked 18th Domestic cup winners (Denmark) would jump from 2nd to 3rd QF Rd as they are the top seed of the 2nd round teams?

it Isn’t my logic, it is UEFA’s. All I am doing is looking at next year’s access list if (as they would) UEFA do the same thing again.

I don’t really care what other teams get jigged about, but I am 99.9% sure that if Arsenal win the EL, we will not benefit. Probably it will be Feyenoord.

By your logic i meant your interpretation. If a team jumps up from the 3rd round to the groups then a team must jimp from the 2nd to the 3rd so Arsenal winning still could benefit us. Looking at what i read as the logic why its the dutch team that is the one who goes from 3rd round to groups would to me suggest the Danish Cup winners would go from 2nd to 3rd and not us.

If youre not that arsed though than fair enough

I see your point. I am assuming that we wouldn’t jump to Q3 because the convention is to ignore the country of the club winning the EL. I would expect the Danish cup winners to jump to Q3, not us.

This translation is from a Dutch website I was just reading (more bad news):

Feyenoord is secured by the victory of the TOTO KNVB Cup of participation in the third qualifying round of the Europa League. There is still a chance that the team of head coach Giovanni van Bronckhorst will enter the group phase.
Third preliminary round
The matches in the third qualifying round of the Europa League will be finished in the 2018-2019 season on 9 and 16 August. Feyenoord knows after draw on July 23 who the opponent is in the first European matches of the new football year.
If Feyenoord comes through the third preliminary round, the team will qualify for the playoff round of the tournament, whose matches will be played on 23 and 30 August. The winners of the play-off round will qualify for the group stage of the Europa League.
Group stage
Possibly, Feyenoord still starts directly in the group stage of the Europa League. The winner of the Europa League will receive a ticket for the Champions League. If that team has qualified for the group stage of the Europa League through the league, that place will be available for the next country in the UEFA country ranking where the cup winner will not enter the group stage directly. In this case, that is the Netherlands.

The final of the Europa League will be played on May 16th. Olympique Marseille, Red Bull Salzburg, Arsenal and Atlético Madrid still stand a chance of winning the tournament, as they have qualified for the semi-finals.

Each of the 48 clubs that feature in the group stage can expect to receive a group stage fee of €2.6m. There will also be performance bonuses of €360,000 for every win and €120,000 for every draw in the group stage. Moreover, qualification bonuses will be allotted to the teams that progress to the round of 32: the group winners can anticipate earning €600,000 apiece and the runners-up €300,000 each.

With regard to the knockout phase, sides competing in the round of 32 will collect €500,000 each, clubs in the round of 16 €750,000, the quarter-finalists €1m and the semi-finalists €1.6m apiece. The UEFA Europa League winners will pick up €6.5m and the runners-up €3.5m.

A team could receive, at best, €15.71m from playing in this season's competition – not counting the market pool share.

What is more, clubs participating in the qualifying rounds will be entitled to a respective payment of €215,000 for the first qualifying round), €225,000 (second), €235,000 (third) and €245,000 (play-off). Note, however, that the play-off winners will not receive the solidarity payment from that specific round.

Although it's looking more and more likely, we aren't there yet. Don't like counting my chickens as it usually backfires.

But if we do qualify, do you think it will help us sign a couple of quality players? On the assumption SD wants to improve the squad.

I'm just setting off on a European tour on the 5th July and hope I end up in the right place at the right time.

Given my luck this week I will be in Romania when we are playing Total Network Solutions at home.

For Pete's sake, the right answer has been given a dozen times.

5th and 6th come in at group stage
7th comes in at 2nd qualifying round

Doesn't matter what Arsenal do in this year's tournament. If their spot is vacated it goes to a team from a different country who gets bumped up the qualification entry order.

For reasons known only to themselves, the four qualifying rounds are known as 1st qualifying round, 2nd qualifying round, 3rd qualifying round, and play-offs. Perhaps the person naming the rounds didn't know any numbers higher than 3.

Ah should be ok if we end up at olympiakos. Theres a flight from athens at 01:15 via Doha that lands in Manchester at 13:35 for £1,181. Sounds simpler than the draw.

38 in The Premier League
6 in The FA Cup without replays.
8 In The League Cup if we join at the third round and with a two legged semi final.
21 in The Europa if we enter at the second qualifying stage

Total 73 games.

We ****** 67 in 2008/09 with a crap team. 73 with Dyche in charge? Piece of ****!

Not this time. Champions League losers come in at various stages:
20 CL preliminary & first qualifying losers play in EL 2nd qualifying.
15 CL second qualifying losers play in EL 3rd qualifying
6 CL third qualifying losers play in EL play-off round
10 CL third and fourth qualifying losers play in group stages
8 CL group 3rd place teams play in the knock-out last 32.

Wikipedia has a long and involved, but apparently accurate, description.

Max of 6 in the League Cup.

Was 61 in 2008/09, just short of the record set in 1960/61.
