A case for the defence at Leicester
One thing we’ve struggled to do all season in the Premier League is prevent the opposition from scoring, but in our last game at Leicester ten days ago we did just that, earning a point in a 0-0 draw that left the back four taking all the honours.
Kevin Long came in for the injured James Tarkowski to play alongside Matt Lowton, Ben Mee and Charlie Taylor with those four players taking the first four places in both the man of the match vote and the player ratings.
Lowton won the man of the match with 26% of the vote, narrowly beating Kevin Long who took second place with a 24% share. Taylor was third with 19% while 14% of the vote won Ben Mee fourth place, a total of 83% of the vote going to the back four.
The two full backs, Lowton and Taylor, couldn’t be separated at the top of the player ratings. Both had ratings of 7.63 out of 10 to jointly win. Mee took third place with a rating of 7.48 while 7.30 out of 10 secured fourth place for Long.
That result gave Lowton ten points towards the Up the Clarets Player of the Year and there were seven points for Taylor, four for Long and three for Mee. Those points have made little difference at the top end of the table where Joe Hart still leads James Tarkowski by 22 points. The highest placed of that back four is Mee who has moved into joint fifth position alongside Jeff Hendrick.
The next vote will be underway next Monday night after the home game against Newcastle; the Leicester result and the current player of the year table can be found below.
