1819 burnley dan agyei 00 500x500Dan Agyei was offered a new contract by Burnley towards the end of last season but after four years at Turf Moor, during which time he made a Premier League debut against Liverpool at Anfield, he’s opted to move on to Oxford United.

Agyei came in from AFC Wimbledon four years ago. During his time at Burnley he’s had loans at Coventry, Walsall and Blackpool and made a total of 43 league appearances in League One, scoring eight goals, four for each of Coventry and Walsall.

Last season he was, undoubtedly, a key player in our under-23s and a player Steve Stone wanted to keep at Burnley. He was the leading goalscorer in the Professional Development League with 16 goals and formed a formidable partnership with Tinashe Chakwana, who has been on trial at Sunderland without winning a deal, particularly in the first half of the season.

However, the 22-year-old had made the decision to move on and Up the Clarets learned before the end of last season that he wouldn’t be signing his new deal, and today he’s made a return to League One with Oxford who have got themselves a striker with some genuine pace and more than an a eye for goal.

Oxford have confirmed that he’s signed a three year deal for an undisclosed fee which will avoid the need to go to a tribunal

Dan said after confirming the move: “I’d like to thank everyone at Burnley for helping me develop as both a player and a person over the last 4 years. Firstly thanks to the Gaffer and all the staff associated with Burnley Football Club for giving me the opportunity to make my debut in the Premier League and developing me both on and off the pitch.

“I’d also like to thank my team mates for making feel welcome at the club and I’ve formed long lasting friendships. Lastly I would like to thank the amazing Burnley fans for all your support over the years.”

Up the Clarets would like to wish Dan all the very best at Oxford.
