1516 burnley stephen ward 00 630x420Earlier this week both Sam Vokes and Danny Lafferty were called up for training camps ahead of the Euros and yesterday Stephen Ward was named in Martin O’Neill’s initial Republic of Ireland squad.

O’Neill has selected a squad of 35 for a friendly international against Holland to be played at the Aviva Stadium on Friday 27th May and Ward is, as expected, included in that squad.

The left-back, who has started all of Burnley’s last 23 league games, will then have to wait until the following day when the squad is named for the tournament. It would be a bit surprise if he wasn’t and should he be selected will then move to Cork for a training camp prior to one more friendly against Belarus before the tournament gets underway.

Ward, who was signed from Wolves in August 2014, has made a total of 33 league appearances for Burnley and has only twice, in his first two starts against Everton against Arsenal, has he finished on the losing side.
