1718 burnley youth team 1000x500Having beaten both AC Sparta Praha and Prostars FC in the group games, Burnley’s youth team have reached the semi-final of the Generali CEE Cup and will face Turkish side Altinordu FK tomorrow morning as we look to reach the final.

The competition has involved twelve clubs split into four groups of three and the four group winners have now reached the last four. As Group A winners, we waited until yesterday to find out our opponents after  both SK Slavia Praha and Altinordu FK had beaten late entry Academia Sport Team 6-0 in Group D. The pair met yesterday evening with Altinordu winning 3-1.

Our group was also completed yesterday with Sparta, the tournament winners in both 2015 and 2016, recording the biggest win of this year’s tournament so far, thrashing Prostars 10-0.

Our game will again be played in the vast Grand Strahov Stadium tomorrow, kicking off at 10 a.m. (British Summer Time) with the second semi-final following in the same venue at 2:30 p.m. (BST). That one is between Group B and C winners Everton and FK Sarajevo. Leicester, the other English entrants, have gone out having finished second behind Sarajevo in Group C.

The games will again be streamed live on YouTube.

Win or lose, Burnley will have one further game. Should Altinordu reach the final, we’ll be involved in the play-off game for 3rd and 4th places on Tuesday, kicking off at 10:30 a.m. in the same venue, but should we reach the Final, that will be played on Wednesday with a 5 p.m. kick off at Stadion Ďolíček.

Up the Clarets, who have sponsored our youth team in the tournament, are delighted at how well we’ve played in the two games so far. The team had their final training session today in preparation for the game and we wish the them the very best in tomorrow’s semi-final.
