Burnley’s home game tomorrow against Wolves will be refereed by Fred Graham from Essex. He’s refereed us twice previously at West Ham and Leeds but this will be his first Turf Moor game.

Graham is now in his 12th season as a Football League referee. His first game was in League Two between Notts County and Chester in August 2004. He refereed once in the Championship that season; it was Brighton’s home game against Derby at the Withdean Stadium. Derby won the game 3-2 despite having Ian Taylor sent off with the score at 2-2. It was one of nine red cards in his first season.

That first Burnley game was our 2-1 win at West Ham back in December 2011. I missed that game but the suggestions coming from Clarets Player were that he was favouring the home side. That certainly didn’t prove to be the case with comments on the message board and we certainly can’t point any fingers at him for our poor performance at Leeds in April 2013 when we were beaten 1-0.

Those two games have given him a RATE THE REF rating of 66 out of 100 and 25th place.

This season he’s referee 25 games with just seven of them in the Championship, four of those seven coming in his last six games.

He’s only sent off one player all season, and that was in a League One game, but there have been 100 yellow cards, an average of exactly four per game. Of those cards, 43 have gone to home team players and 57 to away team players.

He refereed Wolves as recently as last month in their 2-2 home draw against Bolton. There were no cards that night which is, to date, his only card free game this season.

His last game was a week ago, QPR’s 3-0 home win against Brentford. Six players were carded in that game. QPR’s Sebastian Polter, Karl Henry, Junior Hoilett and Massimo Luongo were all shown yellow as were both Sergi Canos and Ryan Woods of Brentford.

The assistant referees are Scott Oldham and Simeon Lucas (both Lancashire). The fourth official is Football League referee Mark Brown (East Yorkshire) whose last Burnley game was our 3-0 home win against Birmingham in September 2013.
