Lee Probert will be the referee tomorrow for our game against West Bromwich Albion at The Hawthorns, his third Burnley game of the season having previously refereed the away game at Southampton and the home fixture against Watford.

His RATE THE REF rating went up to 72.48 out of 100 after his last game and he’s now in sixth place; this being his second good performance this season with the Clarets. On that second occasion he did leave Watford with ten men for over half of the game after sending off Marvin Zeegelaar.

It’s a far cry from his first Burnley game in 2004 when he had something of a nightmare at Plymouth but generally he’s been fine with us and perhaps his only other really disappointing game was at Bournemouth at the end of last season.

He hasn’t pleased everyone though. Earlier this month he missed what Bournemouth believe should have been a penalty against Leicester with Charlie Daniels claiming he was probably a bit in fear to give it having already given them one spot kick.

That was his most recent Premier League game. In total this season he’s refereed 25 games with twelve of them in the Premier League. There have been just 42 yellow and five red cards in those games. Of the yellows, 23 have gone to home team players and 19 to away team players. Two of those five reds have been in the Premier League, the earlier one was that of Simon Francis in Bournemouth’s 4-0 home win against Huddersfield.

His last game was in the lower leagues, the Lancashire clash in League One between Blackburn and Blackpool at Ewood Park. Both teams had two players yellow carded; they were Charlie Mulgrew and Corry Evans of Blackburn and Blackpool’s Kyle Vassell and Nathan Delfouneso.

If he turns in a performance similar to those earlier in the season there will be no problems.

The assistant referees are Andy Garratt (West Midlands) and Simon Beck (Bedfordshire) and they were the two assistant referees for that Watford game at the Turf Moor in December when Probert was last in the middle.

The fourth official is Select Group 2 referee Oliver Langford (West Midlands) whose last Burnley game was the 2-1 home win against Huddersfield in October 2015.
