Having enjoyed a good run of results, the under-18s are now in a more difficult period and this morning lost for the third successive game when they came up against a very good Huddersfield Town side at Gawthorpe.

1718 burnley adam bruce 00 500x500I saw the first of those defeats against Bolton when I felt we were somewhat unfortunate to lose, but that certainly wasn’t the case today and once Huddersfield had gone in front on six minutes with an unfortunate own goal there was only ever going to be one winner.

They’d already threatened when a ball into the box looped off Bobby Thomas and into the net past the helpless Adam Bruce (pictured) and the expected reaction just didn’t come. It went worse midway through the half when Huddersfield, who are coached by one time Burnley target Leigh Bromby, doubled their lead and on 43 minutes they took the game right out of our reach with a third.

Having started with a back three, Danny Cadamarteri switched to a more familiar back four in the second half with a couple of changes, but it was much of the same as the rain started to pour down although there was only one further goal, that coming just twenty minutes into the half.

By the time the referee blew the final whistle, we were a well beaten side and the spectators had all received a soaking with the wind putting paid to some of the umbrellas on view.

It’s Crewe away next week with the next home game coming a week later when Sheffield United are our visitors.

Today’s team was: Adam Bruce, James Clarke, Bobby Thomas, Dan Moss, Jordan Cropper (Tristan Jumeau ht), Ethan Kershaw, Terry Mupariwa (Akim Samms 60), Kian Yari, (Jayden Major ht), Kwasinkosi Mpofu, Will Harris, Michael Fowler. Subs not used: Kai Calderbank-Park, Richard Taylor.
