League Cup LogoThe draw for the first round of this season’s League Cup turned into pure farce when Charlton were drawn out twice. “It wasn’t compromised,” said chief exec Shaun Harvey.

The second round draw was pure nonsense. John Salako was making mistakes, Alex McLeish looked as though he’d fallen asleep and they eventually had to change the first four ties. “It wasn’t compromised,” said chief exec Shaun Harvey.

The first round draw was staged in Thailand, I seem to remember, they all shot off to Monaco for last week’s draw but this week the third round draw will be held in Beijing and will take place on Thursday at 4:15 a.m. British Summer Time.

Goodness knows what Shaun Harvey, who previously presided over Bradford City’s decline and was Ken Bates’ puppet at Leeds, will have to say about this one when he gets back from his latest jolly.

Because of the nonsense in the previous two draws, they’ve had to explain how a normal draw works. The League’s web site reads: “The Round Three draw is unseeded, with the first ball drawn as the home club, followed by an away club. This is repeated until there are 16 ties.”

And just to confirm: “The draw will take place from approximately 11:15am local time – 4:15am BST.”
