By the end of Monday, the first team, the under-23s and the under-18s will have kicked off their new league seasons and it is the under-18s who go first with a home game tomorrow against Charlton Athletic.

Charlton ended last season in second place in the South Group, behind Crystal Palace, but then went on to win the play-offs, beating North Group winners Leeds in the semi-final and then Palace in the final, to be crowned 2017/18 U18 Professional Development League Champions.

It’s a new look squad for Danny Cadamarteri this season. He’s lost a number of the players who featured in 2017/18. Jordan Barnett, Leighton Egan, Craig Ellison, Tristan Jumeau, Lewis King, Sam Layton and Kwasinkosi Mpofu have all left the club while goalkeeper Adam Bruce, defenders James Clarke, Scott Wilson and Oliver Younger, and Dwight McNeil are no longer available with them all over the age for the competition.

However, eleven new first year scholars have arrived to boost a squad that now totals 24 as the challenge continues to produce first team footballers. And one of those new players has already received international recognition. Kane Patterson (pictured) who we have signed from Spurs had already played for Scotland at under-16 level and he’s recently received an under-18 call up for games against Russia and Spain in just over a week’s time.

Some of the new scholars have played previously in the youth team, others will be looking forward to their competitive debuts for Burnley. The list is Harry Allen, Udoka Chimna, Chris Conn-Clarke, Joe Conley, Rhys Fenlon, Mitchell George, Jaydon Major, Matthew O’Neill, Kane Patterson, Edon Pruti and Matthew Rain.

Up the Clarets would like to wish the team and every member of it a successful 2018/19 season.

Kick off tomorrow at Gawthorpe is 11 a.m.
