1718 burnley phil bardsley 02 1000x500Sean Dyche gave an update on the injuries at today’s press conference and it looks very likely that it will be the same squad for the Chelsea game as beat Cardiff City last week at the Turf.

Matt Lowton has stood in at right-back for the last two games following the injury Phil Bardsley sustained at the training ground, leading to him having stitches in a gashed leg.

Dyche said he will be assessed over the next couple of days to see whether he can return, but he ruled out any return for Peter Crouch or Steven Defour as we all expected. He said: “Crouch is back on the move but not quite there yet. He is literally taking his first strides, loosely, on the training ground, but not with us, more with the sports science team. We’ll see how he goes. He feels in a good place at the minute.”

Defour had already been ruled out for the season but there was some positive news from the manager who said of the Belgian midfielder: “He’s not going to be right for this season, but he’s making very good progress. He’s in a good place with it all. He’s had a lot to take on this season and I think, overall, he has handled it well.

“It’s not easy. He had a fantastic season last season until he got injured and then it’s been a work in progress this season to try and get everything back in order, but he’s in good spirits.”

That just leaves Aaron Lennon who was reported to be closing in on a return. Nothing has been said since then and he didn’t feature for the under-23s this week.
