Birch to play in Cheltenham friendly
Under-23 right-back Arlen Birch will be out of contract at Burnley in the summer and will play today in a behind closed doors game for Cheltenham Town.
The 21-year-old Birch joined the Clarets from Everton in September 2015 after a month’s trial and he’s captained the under-23 team this season although hasn’t been able to make the breakthrough into the first team.
Gloucestershire Live are reporting that Cheltenham boss Gary Johnson will watch him in the game with a view to potentially taking him to the League Two club for next season. Birch plays at right-back and it is a position they are looking to fill with them having used a midfield player there for much of this season.
He’s one of a number of players within the development squad who are out of contract at the end of this season and given the number of trialists who have been involved recently it could be that we see a big turnover of players in Michael Duff’s squad over the summer.
