Last Friday’s 4-2 win against Bournemouth lifted us, temporarily, to second in the Premier League Cup Group C although it was always a definite that we would drop back to third no matter what the result was two days later between Liverpool and West Brom.

1819 burnley rob harker 01 500x500That game ended 1-1, moving West Brom back above us on goal difference, but it is so tight now. Bournemouth lead the group with seven points, West Brom and us both have five points while Liverpool are currently in fourth place with three points. With us all having two games to play, ours at home against Liverpool and West Brom, it is currently a case of potentially any two from four to qualify for the knock out stage of the competition.

A number of the groups are close but three teams are already guaranteed to go through. Nottingham Forest, Aston Villa and Reading have won all of their first four games in their respective groups and are the first three to qualify for the last 16. No one, as yet, has gone out, but it is going to be very difficult now for Bristol City, Colchester and Notts County. Colchester are without a point while the other two have just the one point each.

There is one game scheduled for the coming week but it is back to the league with it kicking off today with a south group game between Coventry and Watford. All of the north group games will be played on Monday along with three other south group games. The final game in the south group will be played on Tuesday.

The player photographed this week is Rob Harker. The young striker was signed from Bury during the summer. He scored our third in the win against Bournemouth; it was his third goal of the season.
