Two weeks ago we covered the first week of the U18 Professional Development League. Due to time constraints we were unable to review last week but can now take a look at weeks two and three which have given both Burnley and Cardiff City, winners on week one, another two victories to lead their respective tables.

The second week of the season saw the south teams at home against the north teams and they produced five for the north, four for the south and one draw. Last Saturday, it was back north for the games and it was a similar return with five more wins for the north team, just three for the south and two draws.

Only four teams won both games. Cardiff were the only team in the south group to record two victories while in the north there were two wins for each of Burnley, Leeds and Nottingham Forest. Given the first week’s results, it means us and Cardiff are the only teams with a maximum return of nine points.

Our lead is not just as clear as Cardiff’s. In the south, only Ipswich could catch them on point this week whereas Sheffield Wednesday could pass us with both Leeds and Forest able to catch us. If last season is anything to go by, we can expect the north group to be the tighter of the two.

Despite the limited number of games played, only five teams are still searching for their first win. In the north Birmingham have just one point while Hull have lost three times and further south all of Millwall, QPR and Colchester are still searching for their first point.

We are back south for this week’s fixtures with Burnley travelling to Watford as we look to continue our excellent start. Cardiff, who have scored eight and are still to concede a goal, are expected to record another win against pointless Hull who already have a goal difference of minus seven.

The League Tables can be found with our Fixtures and Results in U23/U18 Stats on the top menu. The tables are updated as results are confirmed.
