1617 burnley tommy wood 00 500x500Having lost both Youth Alliance League games last season against Wigan, we’ll be hoping to complete a double over the Latics this season when we face them tomorrow morning at Gawthorpe.

Because of the work at our training ground, both games were played away from home last season. I saw the first of them when, under the guidance of Jason Blake, we were hammered 4-0 at Robin Park, with all four goals coming in the first half, and we played them again at Christopher Park, going down 3-0.

Our trip to Wigan this season looked as though it might be heading in the same direction when we fell two goals behind in the first half. Nashé Chakwana pulled one back but we still trailed 2-1 at half time.

Things changed in the second half with all of Olatunde Bayode, Tommy Wood (pictured) and Tyler Shrimpton finding the net. Wigan did pull one back late in the game but Burnley held on to win the game 4-3.

We are certainly due a win against them at home. The last time that happened was in April 2012 when we won 4-1. The goalscorers that day were Shay McCartan, Steven Hewitt, Jamie Frost and Luke Gallagher.

Wigan will start the game three points behind us but a four goal win would take them above us. They’ve also played four games more than we have.

Kick off tomorrow is 11 a.m.
