1718 burnley conor mitchell 00 500x500Goalkeeper Conor Mitchell, currently third choice at Burnley, is set for a loan move to Chester having played for them in their pre-season 1-1 draw against Port Vale two days ago.

It was a good team performance from the National League side with player/assistant manager Tom Shaw confirming they are close to securing the Northern Ireland under-21 international in a loan deal.

Shaw said of him making the move to the Deva Stadium: “Hopefully. There are bits and bobs to work out with his parent club but I thought he was excellent. I thought he looked very accomplished in all parts of his game. There was some great communication with a back four he has never met before.

“I thought he was terrific and if we can get him to sign then there is another selection headache for us and another sleepless night picking up goes in goal. I thought he had a really good debut for Chester.”

Conor joined the Clarets as a 16-year-old scholar five years ago so is now set to move into his sixth season at Turf Moor. He was involved with the first team squad earlier in the pre-season and went on the trip to Ireland.

He made his under-21 international debut last season but his only first team football previously has come in loans at Sheffield FC and Bradford Park Avenue.
