1011 burnley joe mckee 00 300x400Just last week we reported that former right-back Cameron Dummigan had left Oldham Athletic and joined League of Ireland club Dundalk on a long term deal, and he’s now been joined by another of our former young players.

Yesterday, midfielder  Joe McKee moved to Dundalk on loan until the summer from Scottish League club Falkirk. Now, 26, Dundalk made the move to sign him following a couple of early season injuries and he’ll now play his football at Oriel Park until the summer.

McKee said on making the move: “I am happy to be here. It has been a hectic few days and I am happy to get the deal done and join the club. I had to do a bit of research on the club and I only heard about it in the past few days but it’s good to get things done. I came over for a look on Tuesday. I flew back on Wednesday but as soon as I came over for a look I knew I wanted to come here.”

It’s almost ten years since we signed McKee from Livingston. Although he’d made a couple of substitute appearances by then in Scotland, he went into our youth squad before progressing into the development squad.

He was released at the end of his three year contract at Turf Moor with his only first team football having come from two substitute appearances back in Scotland with St. Mirren, and only leaving us he signed for Owen Coyle for a second time at Bolton but stayed just one year, again without making the first team.

He’s since played for both Morton and Carlisle before moving to Falkirk in the January transfer window two years ago. He’s played 34 league games for them, scoring six goals, and was in the team as recently as 5th January when he played the full game in a 1-0 win at Ayr. He’d also scored in all of his three previous games, two in the league and one in the cup.

Dundalk will now be hoping to get his international clearance through to enable him to join the squad for tonight’s away game against Finn Harps.
