There was no doubting Burnley’s best player in our 1-0 win against Middlesbrough on Boxing Day; Ben Mee has gone to the top of the Up the Clarets Player of the Year Table after a performance that saw him comfortably win both the man of the match vote and the player ratings.

Mee has been battling Michael Keane at the top of the table in recent weeks but has now taken a stride forward after this performance, one of a series of excellent games he’s had in this season’s Premier League.

He polled 49% of the man of the match vote leaving him way ahead of the field. George Boyd, who had his best game of the season, was second with 16% while Ashley Barnes and Stephen Ward took the next two players with 11% and 5% shares of the vote respectively.

It’s a third man of the match win for Mee this season, bringing him level with Johann Berg Gudmundsson and Tom Heaton. His previous wins came in the 2-1 home win against Everton and the 2-0 defeat at Stoke.

The top three there were also in the first three places in the player ratings. Mee was again a clear winner with a rating of 8.15 out of 10. Barnes was second with 7.45 and Boyd took third place with 7.32. Fourth place went to goalkeeper Heaton who had a rating of 7.11 out of 10.

Mee and Keane kicked off level in the player of the year table but Mee goes into tomorrow’s game against Sunderland with a ten point lead after picking up the maximum points. There were also five points for both Barnes and Boyd with Heaton and Ward collecting one point each.

Mee is now on 77 points with Keane on 67 and that’s a big lead they have over Heaton who sits in third place with 47 points. Behind those three are the midfielders Dean Marney, Jeff Hendrick and Steven Defour and then comes Barnes, who has only recently been getting starts in the team. He’s now moved up to joint seventh alongside Gudmundsson.

There is just one more vote in 2016 and that’s for the Sunderland game which will be played at the Turf tomorrow afternoon. The vote will start tomorrow around an hour after the final whistle of the Sunderland game.
