The Bill Shankly Kop on our last visit to Deepdale
The Bill Shankly Kop on our last visit to Deepdale

Having played against Shamrock Rovers in Ireland, Burnley have further pre-season games lined up against Alfreton Town, Kidderminster Harriers, Preston North End and another Championship club before returning to Turf Moor for two home games.

The first two of those games will be played on the same day, at Alfreton and Kidderminster with the Clarets sending a split of first team and development squad players to each game. They will both be played on Saturday 22nd July.

I’m not aware of any Burnley team having previously played at Kidderminster but we did take a development squad team to Alfreton five years ago. On that occasion we won 3-0 in front of a crowd of 366 with the goals scored by Mehdi Lazaar, Joe Jackson and Steven Hewitt.

During the next week we will face two Championship teams. It’s off to Preston on Tuesday 25th July. We played them in a pre-season game three years ago which ended in a 2-1 defeat but our last visit to Deepdale was the 1-0 win that came courtesy of a slightly deflected Joey Barton free kick in the penultimate away game of the 2015/16 title winning season.

Saturday 29th July takes us to another Championship club but this fixture is still to be confirmed.

It’s home then for two prestigious home friendlies on Tuesday 1st and Saturday 5th August, although the opposition for these games is still to be confirmed, before the 2017/18 Premier League season kicks off a week later.
