Just over three years ago, Ashley Barnes turned in as good a centre forward performance as I’d seen in years when we drew 2-2 against Manchester City at the Etihad; last Saturday, playing on the left hand side in place of the injured Scott Arfield, he turned in another excellent performance for the Clarets.

1718 burnley ashley barnes 00 500x500Barnes scored to give us the lead during the first half and his performance fully deserved winning both the man of the match vote and the player ratings.

He won 47% of the vote to win the man of the match, ahead of midfielder Ashley Westwood. He returned to the side as if he’d never been away and polled 12% of the vote. Just behind him was Jόhann Berg Guðmundsson with 11% while Ben Mee, captaining Burnley against his former club, was fourth with a 9% share of the vote.

The same four players took the top four places in the player ratings too. Barnes was again the winner and his 7.48 out of 10 meant he was the only player to reach a seven. Guðmundsson and Mee were joint second with ratings of 6.95 and just behind them was Westwood who had a rating of 6.90 out of 10.

This result means a maximum ten points for Barnes towards the Up the Clarets Player of the Year with five points for Guðmundsson and four points for both Mee and Westwood.

Those points have seen Guðmundsson move ahead of Cork into third place in the table and Mee, in fifth place, is now only five points behind Cork. There are just 31 points separating top from fifth with Nick Pope just a further 12 points behind with 16 more games to play this season.

The next vote will be for the Crystal Palace game this Saturday and should be underway within an hour of the final whistle.
