Burnley have gone out of the Lancashire Senior Cup tonight, suffering a 4-0 defeat against Liverpool at the Merseyside club’s academy at Kirkby.

Liverpool took the lead against an inexperienced Burnley side after just 19 minutes when Madger Gomes scored and then it was all down to Matty Virtue who bagged himself a hat trick.

He scored from close range right on half time to doubled their advantage, scored again ten minutes into the second half with a shot from outside the box and completed his hat rick eight minutes from time with a similar effort.

The teams were;

Liverpool: Kamil Grabara, Corey Whelan, Juanma, Joe Gomez, Mamadou Sakho, Tiago Ilori, Cameron Brannagan, Jordan Williams, Toni Gomes, Matty Virtue, Madger Gomes. Subs: Brooks Lennon, Andy Firth, Paulo Alves, Jake Brimmer, Nathaniel Phillips.

Burnley: Conor Mitchell, Oliver Younger, Jimmy Dunne, Taofiq Olomowewe, Ali Koiki (Scott Wilson 85), Olatunde Bayode (Tommy Wood 85), Arlen Birch, Aiden O’Neill, Mark Howarth, Brad Jackson, Tristan Jumeau (Khius Metz 68). Subs not used: Connor King, James Clarke.
