Clarets start and end month with Craig Pawson
Burnley kicked off April with a 2-0 home defeat against Manchester City and end the month tomorrow at Vicarage Road against Watford and Craig Pawson will referee tomorrow’s game having refereed that game against City.
They are his second and third Burnley games this season; the other was the reverse fixture against Watford back in February. He’ll referee us for a nineteenth time tomorrow with thirteen of them in the Premier League.
He’s refereed 26 games this season in domestic football, 23 of them in the Premier League and three in the two cup competitions. There have been 106 yellow cards in those games with two red cards. Of those yellows, 49 have gone to home team players and 57 to away team players. He sent off Leeds’ Pascal Struijk in their 3-0 home defeat against Liverpool in September and, very controversially, Everton’s Allan saw his red card in last month’s home win against Newcastle.
He’s only refereed two games since his last Burnley game and there have been no fewer than thirteen yellow cards. Seven of those came in his most recent game between Arsenal and Manchester United last Saturday. Arsenal had Nuno Tavares, Mohamed Elneny and Granit Xhaka carded alongside United’s Victor Lindelöf, Alex Telles, Bruno Fernandes and Cristiano Ronaldo.
Soon to retire Jon Moss is fourth official; his most recent Burnley game was the 1-1 draw at Crystal Palace in February. Stuart Attwell refereed our home win against Southampton nine days ago but tomorrow is back in his more familiar role for Burnley games as VAR official.
