We went into the week’s fixtures on a terrific run of form but came out of it with two defeats which has kept us in sixth place in the north group of the Professional Development League.

Leading against Crewe last Friday, it all went against us when an injury to Brad Grant and a red csrd for Noah Adekoya left us with nine men as Crewe came back to win 3-1 in a game that we should have had wrapped up.

Two days ago, we were beaten 6-1 at Hull with Tyrell Sellars-Fleming hitting a hat trick for the home side for whom Burnley’s Callum West appeared as a substitute and, potentially scored their fourth goal two minutes after coming on.

We finished the game with ten players when defender Benn Ward was sent off and the starting eleven included four players from the under-18s. There were two more under-18s who came on as substitutes.

It wasn’t a busy week in the league but Birmingham and Sheffield Wednesday, the top two in the north both played and won. Both have played 25 games and have won 47 and 45 points respectively but Sheffield United sit on 41 points and have four games in hand.

Our two defeats mean we remain a point behind Barnsley and five points behind Fleetwood and now with just two games in hand.

Neither of the top two in the south group were in action so Millwall still lead QPR by eight points from one game more, but Bournemouth, who beat Charlton, have now moved ahead of QPR and trail Millwall by six points.

This week sees us play twice. We are at Sheffield United tomorrow for a previously north group game and over three days next week there are nine north/south games with the south group teams at home, and that includes our trip to Ipswich on Tuesday.

The player featured this week is Tommy McDermott who scored our goal at Hull.
