Eight days ago we were beaten 1-0 at home by Tottenham Hotspur after a performance from the Clarets that most have deemed our best so far this season.

We weren’t able to get our first home league goal of the season but defensively we played well, other than the slip at the corner which cost us the one goal, and it is defenders who have come out on top in the man of the match and the player ratings.

The two central defenders led the way. Between them they won 60% of the man of the match vote with Kevin Long on top with 34% and James Tarkowski second with 26%. Midfielder Josh Brownhill was third with 15% while an 8% share won fourth place for Jόhann Berg Guðmundsson.

The top two reversed in the player ratings with Tarkowski scoring 7.56 out of 10 to win with Long just behind in second place with 7.31. Matt Lowton, who returned to the team after injury, came in third with a rating of 6.98 while fourth place went to Brownhill who had a rating of 6.75 out of 10.

It gave both Long and Tarkowski eight points towards the Up the Clarets Player of the Year with Brownhill winning three points along with two points for Lowton and one for Guðmundsson. The three points won by Brownhill have edged him closer  to the top; Charlie Taylor now holds just a four point lead while Tarkowski, winner in each of the last two seasons, has now moved into third place in the table.
