The group stage of the Premier League Cup got underway in the last week with all but two of the teams playing their first game, and it was Bournemouth and Aston Villa taking the honours with big wins against ourselves and Bristol City.

1819 burnley rob harker 01 500x500Burnley’s young under-23 team travelled to Dean Court last Saturday and came up against a Bournemouth side who included Charlie Daniels, Tyrone Mings and former Claret Marc Pugh in their line up. They proved to be too strong for us and ran out 7-1 winners with Pugh scoring two of the goals. Dan Agyei got our goal.

Ours wasn’t the heaviest defeat though, one day earlier Bristol City had been beaten 8-0 at Aston Villa. Villa won the competition last season, beating Swansea in the final, and they certainly got off to a good start in their attempts to win it again. 20-year-old Callum O’Hare was the star of the show for Villa and the midfielder bagged himself a hat trick.

West Brom and Liverpool are the other two teams in our group and they met on Sunday at the Hawthorns. West Brom won it 1-0 with a Callum Morton penalty.

It’s back to league action this week with a full programme running from Friday through to Monday. Our game is at Leeds and will now be played this Friday at Elland Road with our opponents currently heading the northern group.

The player featured is striker Rob Harker. He’s been out injured in the early part of the season but returned at Bournemouth as a substitute.

The League Tables and the Premier League Cup Group Tables are with our Fixtures and Results in U23/U18 Stats on the top menu. The league tables will be updated during the next week as results are confirmed.
