The top two in Group B of this season’s Central League Cup go head to head this afternoon as Burnley take on Accrington Stanley with the two separated at the top of the group by goal difference.

We go into the game on the back of home wins against Blackburn (2-0) and Preston (4-0) with those two out of the running to qualify for the semi-finals. That has left us with the two away games against Accrington and Wrexham although Accrington have forgone home advantage today with the game being played at Gawthorpe.

Accrington have, to date, beaten Wrexham (4-1) and Blackburn  (5-2) so, as things stand, we are the top two with six points each. Blackburn and Wrexham both have three points while Preston have been beaten in all of the three games they’ve played. Blackburn too have played three of their four games which means they won’t be able to catch either Accrington, us or both after today’s game.

Although it will be Andy Farrell’s under-21 squad taking part this afternoon, unlike the Professional Development League, there is no age restriction on the players selected.

Following today’s game, Accrington will travel to Preston on 19th March to complete their fixtures and we will be at Wrexham a week later.

Today’s game kicks off at 1 p.m.
