Last night we had the breaking news that Charlton Athletic winger Johann Berg Gudmundsson could be on his way to Turf Moor after the two clubs had agreed a deal.

The news came from the usually reliably informed Richard Cawley at the South London Press, and tonight Cawley has reported that the Icelandic international winger, who played in all of his country’s games in the Euros in France, has agreed personal terms with the Clarets.

Cawley says there could be a delay before the deal is concluded with the player now enjoying a well deserved break after his side went out to France on Sunday after an against the odds performance in the tournament, reaching the knock out stages and putting England out before meeting their match against the hosts.

But he expects it to be nothing more than a formality with him putting pen to paper on a Burnley contract once back in the UK.

It would be the first time I can recall us signing a player from Charlton directly although in recent years they have signed both Andy Gray and Leon Cort from us.
