Hopes of a place in the top two in the Professional Development League North Group came to an end this afternoon when we were beaten 4-2 at home by Swansea City.

It was a hugely entertaining game with chances at both ends throughout. Swansea twice went in front only for us to equalise but then two goals in four minutes ensured victory for the visitors.

Swansea looked the brighter of the two sides and they took an early lead with a Liam Smith goal. We had our chances though and Joe Westley was unfortunate not to grab an equaliser before he was forced off with injury around eight minutes before the half time break.

We drew level in the first minute of stoppage time at the end of the first half. Swans’ goalkeeper Remy Mitchell saved well to deny substitute Deji Sotona but Tom Tweedy who made no mistake with a powerful shot.

Level at half time, it took Swansea just 43 seconds to regain their lead at the start of the second half with a Joe Thomas goal but we were level again three minutes later. This time Sotona got down the left wing and his cross was deflected right into the path of Seb Thompson who made no mistake.

Needing a win to keep the play-off places alive, the game went against us when Mitchell Bates and Ruben Davies scored for the visitors and from that moment the result was never really in question.

The teams were;

Burnley: Charlie Casper, Alex Healy-Byrne, Dan Sassi (Gabriel Otegbayo 75), Dane McCullough, Tom Tweedy (Ryan Tioffo 75), Will Hugill, Joe Bauress, Jez Davies, Seb Thompson, Joe Westley (Deji Sotona 38). Subs not used: Harry Moss, Callum West.

Swansea: Remy Mitchell, Harry Jones (Mitchell Bates 58), Sam Leverett (Corey Hurford 77), Tivonge Rushesha, Filip Lissah, Ben Blythe, Joe Thomas, Azeem Abdulai, Josh Thomas (Kian Jenkins  77), Joel Cotterill (Ruben Davies 59), Liam Smith. Sub not used: Evan Watts.
