Burnley’s 1-1 draw against Chelsea brought with it a hefty vote count for the man of the match and some high player ratings after a performance described as being as good as any all season.

Joey Barton again featured heavily, as did Michael Keane (pictured) who is now putting real pressure on Ben Mee at the top of the Up the Clarets Player of the Year Table.

It was Barton, for a third game in succession, who won the man of the match. He polled 31% of the vote ahead of Ashley Barnes who took second place with 18%. A 14% share of the vote saw Keane come in third with Matt Lowton just behind with 13% to claim fourth place.

Three of that top four were also at the top of the ratings. There was to be no third double for Barton; Keane was ahead of him in the ratings but only just. Keane was first with a rating of 8.65 with Barton just behind with 8.62 out of 10.

Lowton, who had as good a game as any since singing for Burnley, was third with 8.43 and his fellow full back Stephen Ward came in fourth with a rating of 8.37 out of 10.

That result has given Barton eight points towards the player of the year. There are seven points for Keane, three each for Barnes and Lowton with one point for Ward.

Those points have not changed any places at the top of the table but things have certainly closed up between our two central defenders. They lead the way but Mee’s lead over Keane is now just one point.

Incredibly, despite having returned to the club just last week, Barton has already moved into seventh place with his latest points taking him ahead of both Dean Marney and James Tarkowski.

It’s cup week and the next vote will be for the FA Cup tie against Lincoln which will be underway around an hour after the final whistle this Saturday.
