Having secured a good point from the game against Sheffield United last Friday, the under-21s face a third successive away game this afternoon with our fixture against Ipswich Town.

Although the point against the Blades didn’t move us up the table, we are now behind fifth place Barnsley on goals scored and with a game in hand.

Ipswich are fifth in the south group and, overall, have one point more than us having played two games more. While our good run has come to an abrupt end with two defeats preceding the draw last Friday, Ipswich have been almost on a win one, lose one run having won five and lost four of their last nine, a run which saw them beaten 8-1 at home by Charlton which they followed up with a 7-3 win against Swansea.

Their last victory came three weeks ago today when they beat Bournemouth 4-2 at home while on Tuesday two weeks ago, in their last game, they were beaten 2-1 at Peterborough. They were 2-0 down as early as the third minute at Peterborough but substitute Emmanuel Okunowo pulled one back seventeen minutes from time.

Their leading goalscorer this season is Leon Ayinde with nine goals and he scored twice in that last win against Bournemouth.

In our previous seasons in the Professional Development League, we’ve played at Ipswich just once with the other three at home. All four games have ended in home wins. We beat them 2-0 in 2017/18 season with goals from Dan Agyei before losing by the same score at Ipswich in the next season.

An Ali Koiki (pictured) hat trick gave us a 3-1 win in 2019/20 and last season, on our return to the league, we beat them 4-3 with Ne-Jai Tucker scoring twice alongside goals from Dara Costelloe and Joe McGlynn.

The Burnley team last time we played at Ipswich back in March 2019 was: Aidan Stone, Jordan Cropper, James Clarke, Teddy Perkins, Scott Wilson, Mitch George, Trialist, Christian N’Guessan (Ben Woods ht), Tinashe Chakwana (Dan Agyei 62), Lewis Richardson, Rob Harker (Will Harris ht). Subs not used: Kai Calderbank-Park, Bobby Thomas, Oscar Woods. Five of those players have played in the Football League this season with a further three in the National League.

Today’s game at the Ipswich training ground kicks off at 1 p.m.
