Mellon goal earns point for Burnley
I wasn’t expecting that the name of the current Tranmere Rovers manager would feature in any reference to our youth team’s game this afternoon in the CEE Cup against Altinordu SK but one of our under-16s, by the name of Michael Mellon, and son of the former Claret, headed an equaliser early in the second half after the Clarets had fallen behind very early in the game.
Mellon’s goal proved to be a point saver with the game ending 1-1 as the young Clarets, including three 15-year-olds, improved as the game went on. We could have won it too when substitute Joe McGlynn came close while we were also thankful to goalkeeper Lewis Thomas who made a fine save.
We will play our final group game tomorrow against local team Slavia Praha. This game kicks off at 3:15 p.m. (2:15 p.m. BST) and will again be shown live on YouTube.
The Burnley team today was: Lewis Thomas, Matty Carson, Matty Rain, Joe Conley, Jake Rooney (Kane Patterson 65), Ben Woods, Tremaine Eastmond, Dylan Moonan, Rhys Fenlon, Mitch George, Michael Mellon (Joe McGlynn 62).Share this page :
