1819 burnley mace goodridge 01 500x500Eight days ago, Mace Goodridge was one of our outstanding players in the 6-0 under-23 team victory over Sheffield United and I was surprised not to see him in the team yesterday for the win against Sheffield Wednesday.

That’s now been explained. The 18-year-old, signed from Newcastle in the summer after a successful trial at the end of last season, has suffered damage to his anterior cruciate ligament in training and requires surgery that will keep him out until next season.

Academy manager Jon Pepper said: “He’s been doing really well for us and it’s unfortunate that he’s going to be out for quite a while now, but he will be looked after, and he is aware of senior players at the club, like Sam Vokes and Ashley Barnes, who have had similar injuries and come back fit and strong to keep progressing in their careers.

“He’s made a really positive impression so far and we look forward to having him back and ready to go again in pre-season.”

Fellow under-23 midfielder Christian N’Guessan has himself undergone surgery for an ankle injury which earned him a red card in the recent game against Bolton at Curzon Ashton. He’s expected to be available again in January.
