1617 burnley rj pingling 00 500x500Striker RJ Pingling, one of four youth team players released by Burnley at the end of last season, has moved into non-league football and has signed for Isthmian League Premier Division club Merstham.

There’s been a big overhaul of players with Pingling one of twelve new players brought in so far by manager Hayden Bird at the Surrey based club.

Pingling was with Burnley from July of last year, signed on a one year professional deal and part of last season’s youth team for whom he scored five league goals during the season, but along with right-back Billy Grogan and midfielders Miles Fenton and Tyler Shrimpton, the club announced his release in April.

His was an interesting arrival at Turf Moor 11 months ago. He was brought into the club by academy scout Kieran Scott, now at Norwich, from an organisation in Croydon called the Kinetic Foundation which was set up to help young people through providing support and activities which develop their skills and capabilities to enable them to participate in and integrate into society as independent, mature and responsible individuals.

He became the 16th youngster to join a football club from Kinetic and that’s since been added to when Burnley signed Ali Koiki, a left back who is still at the club. That list includes Josh Maja at Sunderland who has played for their first team in the League Cup, and Ipswich’s Myles Kenlock; the 20-year-old has already made 23 first team appearances for the Championship club and recently signed a new two year deal.

Up the Clarets would like to wish RJ Pingling the very best at Merstham.
