1617 burnley nick pope 01 1000x500Jack Butland will start in goal for England tonight in the friendly against Costa Rica at Elland Road, but news this morning suggests that Nick Pope will play the second half in what will be his debut.

He’ll become the fifth Burnley player to win a full England cap in the last two years, following Tom Heaton, Michael Keane, Jack Cork and James Tarkowski.

Speaking to the Lancashire Telegraph about him this week, Heaton said: “I’m delighted for him. Me and him have a fantastic relationship, we really enjoy each others company and we enjoy competing against each other. He’s been absolutely outstanding this season and he deserves his slot. I’ve enjoyed working with him this week. That starts again in pre-season.”
