Eight days ago we beat Crystal Palace 1-0 with a Chris Wood goal, but it was a game that ended with Nick Pope making a stunning save to secure his third clean Premier League clean sheet of the season and that was enough to win him both the man of the match and the player ratings.

Neither were foregone conclusions in a much improved team performance and he had to fight off Jay Rodriguez to win the man of the match. Pope polled 41% of the vote with Jay Rod just behind with a 34% share. Ben Mee had returned at Brighton with a man of the match performance and he claimed third place with 15% of the vote while 3% was enough to give goalscorer Wood fourth place.

Eight out of ten performances this season have been rare in the player ratings. In Premier League games previously there hadn’t been any but there were three in this game with Pope scoring 8.34 out of 10. Mee was second this time with a rating of 8.09 while just below him was Rodriguez with a score of 8.04. James Tarkowski took third place in the ratings with a score of 7.75 out of 10.

That all means a ten point haul for Pope with both Mee and Rodriguez winning five points apiece towards the Up the Clarets Player of the Year. Both Tarkowski and Wood won one point. It hasn’t changed the top two positions, still held by Charlie Taylor and Josh Brownhill but Pope has now moved into third place while Mee, after just  two games, is now sixth.

You can still VOTE for the man of the match in last Saturday’s defeat at Manchester City. The voting ends tonight with the next vote coming on Saturday after the final whistle of the home game against  Everton.
