Burnley have, this season, been drawn in the Premier League Cup’s Group G with local rivals Blackburn Rovers, Crystal Palace and Middlesbrough with the first game to be played this afternoon.

1920 burnley christian nguessan 00 500x500Palace and Rovers should have met a couple of days ago but the game has been rescheduled so our trip to Middlesbrough this afternoon is the first in what is a tough group for us with two Category 1 teams .

But, we do go into the game having made an unbeaten start to the season which has only been disappointing in that there have been too many draws. We’ve drawn five of the eight league games, and there really should have been a better return, while we also drew the Lancashire Senior Cup tie against Fleetwood before going through on penalties.

Speaking ahead of the trip, Christian N’Guessan, who is currently first choice alongside Adam Phillips for the central midfield positions, said: “The side has definitely got stronger in the past couple of seasons that I have been here. Obviously we got to the quarter-finals last year whereas the year before we failed to get out of the groups. So, this year, it would be nice to maybe push to the final and potentially win it.”

That run last year saw us win through in a group alongside Bournemouth, Liverpool and West Brom. Reaching the knock out stages, we beat Leicester before going out against Leeds.

Kick off today at Bishop Auckland’s Heritage Park is 1 p.m. and admission is £3.
