Just four weeks ago David Coote refereed our Premier League game at Newcastle and he’s back with the Clarets this afternoon for the home game against Chelsea.

There is rarely much to add about a referee when he takes charge of two Burnley games in quick succession and since that game at Newcastle he’s refereed two further games. He was in charge of Wolves’ 1-0 win at Leeds on Monday of last week and four days took charge of Reading’s 4-2 win at Ewood Park against Blackburn.

Those two game have taken his total of domestic games this season to five in which there have been 23 yellow cards of which thirteen have gone to home team players and ten to away team players. The game between Newcastle and Burnley was the only occasion this season when he’s yellow carded more away team players than those from the home team. That last Premier League game he refereed saw two Leeds players, Luke Ayling and Kalvin Phillips, yellow carded along with João Moutinho of Wolves.

Fourth official is Jon Moss whose last Burnley game was the final game of last season against Brighton. Anthony Taylor is on VAR duty and he refereed our most recent away game at West Brom.
