This evening’s game at Arsenal will be refereed by Graham Scott, his first Burnley game for over fourteen months since he took charge of last season’s 1-0 home win against Everton.

He has refereed Arsenal more recently. That was in June this year when he sent off Southampton’s Jack Stephen’s in Arsenal’s 2-0 win against them at St. Mary’s.

Looking back at his sixteen previous Burnley games, there have been some when  and Manchester City instantly coming to mind. His last game wasn’t good either but he upset visiting manager Marco Silva the most having sent off Everton’s Séamus Coleman.

Today will be Scott’s ninth game of this season. Of the eight so far, four have come in the Premier League, three in the Championship and one in the League Cup. In those eight games he’s handed out 22 yellow and two red cards. Surprisingly, as many as fourteen of those yellow cards have gone to home team players with eight to away team players while the two players he’s sent off are Sheffield United’s John Egan in their 1-0 defeat at Aston Villa and Fulham’s Aboubakar Kamara in their 2-1 home defeat against Crystal Palace.

Scott’s most recent game was Newcastle’s 2-0 win at Crystal Palace sixteen days ago. There were four yellow cards in that game which went to Palace pair Scott Dann and Jeffrey Schlupp and Newcastle’s Federico Fernandez and Sean Longstaff.

The fourth official today is Stuart Attwell; his most recent Burnley game was our 3-1 win at Brighton in February 2019. On VAR duty is David Coote who has already refereed two Burnley games this season, at Newcastle and the home game against Chelsea.
