Our under-21s play their final game of the season this afternoon with an away game against Watford that has now been moved to Vicarage Road.

We go into the game knowing that we can’t make a top two place; right now we sit seventh in the ten team league but we sit just one point behind the next three teams. A win today would take us above Barnsley who have completed their fixtures and we would also go above Coventry and Peterborough should we better their results.

Our opponents Watford have had a difficult season in the south league and are six points adrift at the bottom with just today’s game to play. They never recovered from losing their first eight games and they have only moved within six points of next to bottom Colchester because of an eight day run in March that saw them win three successive games.

With the 2019/20 game against them not played, we’ve met just twice before in the Professional Development League with us both winning our home games. In the 2017/18 season they beat us 4-2 at the University College London Sports Ground with our goals scored by Khius Metz and Harry Flowers.

It was 2-0 in our favour in the following season when Tinashe Chakwana and Lewis Richardson were on the scoresheet; for Richardson it was a first league goal for what was then the under-23 team.

Today’s game kicks off at 1 p.m. and is open to spectators who will be placed in the central block of the Sir Elton John Stand. Prices are £5 adults, £3 over 65s and £1 under 18s with tickets available at the ground.
