Things probably weren’t looking too good this afternoon when the half time whistle blew with the youth team 1-0 down against second place Leeds United, but a remarkable second half saw us race into a three goal lead before winning the game 4-2.

1819 burnley mitch george 00 500x500We fell behind after about twenty minutes but it was no surprise given that Leeds had started the much better of the two sides. Although we improved as the half went on, we were still second best and only a good save from goalkeeper Harry Allen right on half time prevented us going in with a bigger deficit.

But the second half was a different story altogether. Captain Michael Fowler had the ball in the net early in the half, only for it to be ruled out for handball, but there was no stopping the leading goalscorer from getting his name on the scoresheet and he drew us level just eight minutes into the half with a shot from outside the box. Two minutes later and Fowler was again involved, this time his cross set up Mitch George (pictured) to score to give us the lead.

It was now a totally different game and Kian Yari almost made it three immediately afterwards, but this was our game now and just under twenty minutes from the end we took it away from Leeds. Firstly, Fowler got his second with a deflected shot and George, again two minutes later, made it 4-1 with a finish from a tight angle.

At that point, had the score remained at 4-1, we’d have gone above Leeds on goal difference. However, they pulled one back a few minutes from the end but this, at 4-2 was still a superb result for our team. The only sour note was Cricky Conn-Clarke getting a red card right at the end following a melee.

We are next in action next Tuesday with a home game against Birmingham.

The Burnley team was: Harry Allen, Kane Patterson, Richard Taylor, Dan Moss, Matty Rain, Mitch George, Kian Yari, Ethan Kershaw, Terry Mupariwa (Cricky Conn-Clarke ht), Michael Fowler (Lewis Richardson 75), Will Harris. Subs not used: Kai Calderbank Park, Edon Pruti, Ne-Jai Tucker.
