A couple of young players who featured in our development squad in recent seasons were involved in non-league transfers in the build up to Christmas.

1314 burnley kyle brownhill 00 630x420Kyle Brownhill (pictured) was with Burnley for a season in 2013/14 having been signed from Stockport County. He was released at the end of the season and has since played for a succession of non-league clubs in the North West.

His latest move has taken him from Hyde United (where he has now had three spells) to Altrincham and he was named as a substitute against his former club Stockport in their last pre-Christmas game before getting a start on Boxing Day in a 3-0 defeat against FC United of Manchester, an eighth successive defeat in what is a difficult season for Altrincham.

Locally, Ben Hoskin, who was in our youth team and then development squad before leaving the club in 2010, has made the move across Pendle from Colne to Nelson for whom he’d played previously.

Nelson boss Alex Norwood said of his latest signing: “I’m delighted to be able to bring Ben to Nelson. This is a club that he knows well and the fact that he wants to come down a level and help us out of our current situation speaks volumes about the lad.

“We know exactly what we’re getting with Ben, he’s a winner. He’s coming to an age where he will be one of the experienced players in a dressing room and we will be looking for his experience, and his winning mentality, to help the group move forward.”

Ben made his debut in a 2-1 home defeat against Runcorn Linnets last week and was due to make his second appearance on Boxing Day against Barnoldswick Town but the game was called off due to a waterlogged pitch.
