1415 burnley waqas azam 00 630x420Waqas Azam, the youth team captain at Burnley in the 2014/15 season, has signed for Chorley ahead of the 2016/17 season.

Burnley lad Waqas, I thought, was a little unfortunate not to win a deal with the Clarets after finishing his two year scholarship a year ago and when last season started he found himself without a club. He eventually signed for Nelson where he played through to the end of the season.

He’s been on trial with Chorley during the pre-season and he’s impressed manager Matt Jansen with his energy, desire and work rate as well as his ability with the former Carlisle and Blackburn striker delighted to have secured his signature.

Chorley ended last season in seventh place in National League North and will be pushing to go further this year with the aim of making the play-offs and a potential promotion to the National League which would leave them just one league behind the English Football League.
