Burnley ended any hopes Accrington or Wrexham had in the Central League Cup with a 3-0 win this afternoon against Wrexham in a game played at Airbus UK, Broughton.

We’d already beaten Blackburn and Preston at home in group games, following those up with victory in the designated away game against Accrington and today’s result gave us a maximum twelve points from our four games to take us back above this morning’s leaders Accrington and into the semi-finals of the competition where we will play one of Stockport, Wigan or Derby.

Andy Farrell made three changes to the team that beat Bournemouth last Friday in the Professional Development League with Sam Waller, Joe Ashton and Mikey O’Neill coming in for Charlie Casper, Logan Pye and Vernon Masara.

It took us until just the twelfth minute to go in front and, as was the case last Friday, it was Renaldo Torraj who scored the goal with a shot into the bottom corner having cut in from the left.

The better side in the first half, we had to settle for that one goal lead at half time but things changed very quickly after the break with Joe Bevan (pictured) scoring our second just ten seconds in, scoring comfortably from a ball back from Brad Grant.

As the game moved into its first minute of stoppage time, we scored our third and final goal as substitutes Masara and Ackeme Francis-Burrell with the latter converting a cross from the former.

The teams were;

Wrexham: Jack Pilkington, Max Hayes, Tom Kelly, Alex Moore, Harry Dean, Max Purvis, Callum Edwards, George Cruise, Mikey Hayman, Harry Ashfield, James Rainbird. Subs: Elliott Jones, Jake Roberts, Reagan Nicholas, Dafydd Edwards, Hari Roberts.

Burnley: Sam Waller, Alex Healy-Byrne (Noah Adekoya 60), Benn Ward (Ackeme Francis-Burrell 73), Joe Ashton, Brad Grant, Joe Bevan (Vernon Masara 60), Will Hugill, Tommy McDermott, Renaldo Torraj, Tom Tweedy (Michael Parker 73), Mikey O’Neill. Sub not used: Harry Moss.
