At last night’s Burnley FC Supporters Groups AGM, Chris Wood was revealed as the winner of the 2020/21 season Player of the Year Award and last season’s leading goalscorer will become the second recipient of a Beeky.

The award was given the new name of the ‘Alan Beecroft Player of the Year Award’ following Alan’s sad passing in January 2020 after a long battle with Motor Neurone Disease. Due to social distancing, the presentation was made to winner Nick Pope by Alan’s wife Georgina at Gawthorpe.

Wood was the clear winner this year, adding to the club awards he’s won, and it comes after another fine season that saw him reach double figures in Premier League goals for the fourth successive season. It also included a first top flight away hat trick for Burnley since Willie Irvine in 1965 when he scored three in the first half at Wolves on a record breaking day for the Clarets.

With the Player of the Year Evening again unable to go ahead, the delayed presentation will be made this year by Alan’s son Simon. The presentation will be planned for when Chris returns from representing New Zealand at the Olympic Games in Japan.
