Burnley followed up yesterday’s 1-0 win against AC Sparta Praha with a 3-1 victory this morning over Canadian side Prostars which has taken us into Monday’s semi-final in the Generali CEE Cup.

1718 burnley akim samms 01 500x500It looks as though we might be facing the second local side too. We will play the Group D winners and SK Slavia Praha made the best of starts yesterday with a 6-0 win against Academia (Bucharest). The third club in that group is Altinord FK (Izmir, Turkey).

Danny Cadamarteri made ten changes to freshen up the side from yesterday. In the absence of injured defender James Clarke, Scott Wilson was the only player to play in both games so far, but we looked assured against a much older Prostars side.

We took the lead with a goal from Bobby Thomas just past the half hour and looked to be heading into half time with a 1-0 lead, but that changed with two goals in the last three minutes of the half. Prostars equalised but almost immediately we were back in front through Akim Samms (pictured).

Having played well in the first half, we improved after the break and never looked in any danger of losing the lead, and Samms, with his second, increased that lead to end the scoring with just around a quarter of an hour remaining.

The semi-final will kick off on Monday 24th July at 10 a.m. British Summer Time.

The team was: Marcel Wusiewicz, Dan Moss, Bobby Thomas, Scott Wilson, Richard Taylor, Dylon Meredith, Oscar Woods, Ethan Kershaw, Akim Samms, Will Harris, Jordan Cropper. Subs: Adam Bruce, Leighton Egan, Oliver Younger, Kwasinkosi Mpofu, Kian Yari, Tristan Jumeau, Sam Layton, Dwight McNeil, Terry Mupariwa, Michael Fowler.
